Our Legacy Collection

OUR LEGACY COLLECTION

At Mazo, every design begins with a question of purpose.
Not what is new, but what is worth living with - now and over time.

Explore a curated selection of Danish Architect Magnus Læssøe Stephensen’s work, published by Mazo. Design that is historically significant, yet fully alive today.

Living with legacy

Legacy pieces matter because they go beyond function.

When you surround yourself with designs shaped by heritage and revived with intent, you bring depth, continuity, and lasting value into your space - pieces made to live with you now and endure over time.

Sit in history. Live in comfort

Sit your way. TMBO adapts to you: rotate, lean back, or rest your arms on its distinctive ‘ears’. Every angle is supported, making it perfect for working, reading, or just relaxing.

Conceived by Magnus Læssøe Stephensen in 1935, the TMBO Chair and Sofa are more than furniture - they surround you with pieces that not only serve a purpose but also tell a compelling story.

The Architect

Mazo holds the exclusive rights to manufacture and reintroduce the work of Magnus Læssøe Stephensen.

Stephensen's creativity has endured across generations, with some pieces becoming collectors’ items, and others now revived through our efforts.

His architectural vision continues to inspire, carried forward in four heritage designs in our collection that bring past principles into the modern world.

"Når vi har set, at det at gengive brugen og vise os det smukke ved konstruktion er en del af kunstens opgave, må det også være klart, at tingene først er rigtige, når de bruges rigtige."

— Magnus Læssøe Stephensen

“My grandfather intentionally designed the TMBO Chair to allow for multiple ways of sitting. The backrest supports your body even when you rotate, while the iconic ‘ears’ invite you to rest your arms. The comfort is truly exceptional.”

— Magnus Stephensen, Founder of Mazo and grandson of the designer.

From 1931, still iconic today

Like many of his contemporaries, Magnus Læssøe Stephensen designed a series of elegant chairs for Fritz Hansen in the early 1930s, crafted in steam-bent beech using Thonet’s method. They were light, beautiful, and accessible.

The MZO Chair from 1931 stands as a testament to this approach -  for many years, it was the best-selling chair in Denmark, better known at the time as the DAN Chair.

Today, it is still produced on one of Thonet’s historic factories, continuing a legacy.
